I'm new to yoga! Which class should I try first?

This depends on your current level of physical fitness, body awareness, and what you would like to achieve from your yoga practice. We recommend that you start with our Yoga 101 Workshop (by pre-register only). The workshop cover the basic postures, breathing patterns, and to gain a basic understanding of yogic philosophy. Do not delay to register because they sell out quickly.

You are also welcome to drop into any multi-level classes and get to know all of our instructors. Drop in classes are available 7 days a week.

What do I need to bring to class?

Water

We encourage you to bring water to the studio to stay hydrated. You can also fill your own water bottles at our studio.

Yoga Mat

Most students bring their own yoga mat, but we have mats in the studio that are available for you to rent.

Towel

Most students bring their own towel, but we have towels in the studio that are available for you to rent.

How early should I arrive for class?

For your first class, please show up at least 15-20 minutes early to fill out a short registration form and waiver. We will also orientate you with the studio facilities/amenities. We recommend that you show up early to secure a spot in class. The time before class is a great opportunity to sit, relax and breathe, and to prepare yourself for your yoga practice. Latecomers will not be permitted.

What do I need to wear to class?

Due to the extreme amount of sweating, we recommend that you wear comfortable clothing that allows the body to breathe and move comfortably in (stretchy apparel, leggings, yoga pants and tights or shorts that will allow the teacher to see how you are aligned). In the studio you will be barefoot to allow the soles of your feet to grip the mat and to gain awarness of your body in space.

How many times a week should I come to class?

The number of times you practice yoga a week depends on many factors that include other physical activities you engage in, your state of health and the amount of time you have. We highly recommend that you set up a regular schedule for your yoga practice. This will allow you to witness a progression in your practice, and allow your body and mind to become settled so you can achieve greater benefits from yoga.

The most important things is that you listen to your own body. Stay aware to the changes that your whole being will progress through practicing yoga. Try to incorporate yoga into your lifestyle or part of your fitness practice. If you attend more than 2 classes a week, you should consider an unlimited membership for the best value.

Do I need to pre-register to reserve my place?

No, most classes are drop-in with the exception of our pre-registered classes. For drop-in or pre-registered class, we recommend that you show up 10-15 minutes early to ensure your spot in class and to give yourself time to relax before practice begins.

Do I need to eat anything before class?

Do not eat any heavy meals 2-3 hours before class and drink lots of water to stay hydrated. As mentioned we have a water-drinking spout outside the studio where can you fill your water bottles.

Congratulations! You have taken the first step towards living your best life through the practice of yoga at HYM.
